I've been getting spam messages that look like this:
Hi, friend!
Error on ///
New line
THE_BAT3

The last line has also read THE_BAT2

The subject line is simply the number 1 and from looking at the source I can see no hidden links or stuff like that. I wonder what is going on? It's a plain text message. Are they hoping to provoke an automatic respose that proves the existence of the target email address? Or are they just stupid? Any thoughts?

probably a dry run for something - where they'll thin out the amount of junk they try and send by the actual bounces received.

sadly the scum-bags get craftier and craftier every day, simply because spam works - there really are people daft enough to click links and buy things from them, and evene with a 0.1% response rate that could mean milliosn of dollars in sales !
