Dear Customer,

Effective 30/September/2008 we will be removing FrontPage extensions from all of our Linux hosting servers.

The primary reason for this is because Microsoft discontinued FrontPage extension support more than 2 years ago, and the functions are not able to be installed or run on the modern equipment we are now using for our hosting platforms.

Additionally Frontpage is posing a regular and serious security threat due to the numerous vulnerabilities and exploits which will remain unpatched.

We are aware that some of our customers rely on FrontPage to manage their websites, however, the lack of security, and no FP updates since 2004 means that the product has effectively been "dead" for several years. We will not be able to maintain adequate server security unless we take this action now to stop the regular attempts to exploit the FP vulnerabilities.

You can continue to create pages using FrontPage but you will now need upload using FTP.

Current pages that rely on FP-Extensions for forms processing, counters, guestbooks etc. will cease to function and you should take steps to remove all extension code from your websites immediately.

For the short term (until December 2008) we will continue to allow FP extensions on our Windows Server 2003 based hosting plans, please contact sales if you wish to change platforms.

There are alternative and much better page creators that will allow you to design your pages and upload using ftp without the need for any of the FP specific serverside features - this includes Microsoft Expression Web which replaced FP 3 years ago.

Alternatively you could try http://www.netobjects.com/html/essentials.html
Which is free to use or any standards compliant HTML designer program of your choice.

Regards,
Rob Golding
